hand drawn map

Keeping with the theme of traveling this week. I wanted to showcase one our hand drawn maps we recently wrapped up. Creating customized maps for our clients is one of my favorite paper goods we create. We typically start out with a conversation about their map and what they want represented. I like to encourage the use of symbols and adding as many locations that are meaningful to the couple. Once we have narrowed down the buildings and symbols we begin to draw and layout the map. We work with the client on any revisions needed and perfect it so that it accurately reflects their personalities. Once we the layout is approved we begin to color it in. We hand color and calligraphy each map to really give the artistic feel the maps portray. I love the way the maps really represent the couples personalities and where they live. Every time we create a new map, I often add that destination to my long list of places I want to travel.

These hand drawn maps are very near and dear to my heart because the very first map we ever did was for our wedding and was actually the catapult to starting Seaside Invitations. All maps are completely custom to the couple and the occasion. Check out more of map collection here.

Some of my favorite hand drawn elements on this map are the fisherman on the boat, the surfer hanging ten and the horse drawn carriage ride.
